Fishing
Norfolk
Island is a fisherpersons paradise, offering abundant
catches of various varieties of fish.
The reason for
Norfolk's abundant fish stocks is that huge ocean currents
swinging from the equator and across from Australia bring
a rich array of baitfish which is followed by tuna, kingfish,
mahi mahi, wahoo, bonito and marlin all using the Island
as a pit stop.
There are four commercial fishing tour operators on the
island and they provide regular tours to the rock shelf
surrounding Norfolk Island to give visitors the opportunity
to experience deep sea fishing. Species caught on these
expeditions include trumpeter, rock cod, snapper, grouper
and trevally.
Our friendly
fishing tour operators supply all the bait and tackle you
need, and their vast knowledge of the local waters and best
fishing spots assures you of a good feed of local fish upon
your return.
Rock fishing is a very popular pastime on the island. Many
of the best rock fishing spots can only be reached in good
weather and at low tide. Given the dangers associated with
rock fishing around Norfolk Island, it is advisable to seek
the guidance of an experienced local fisherman. |
